Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek ENARUN

Dilek Enarun was born in Istanbul in 1956. After completing her primary education in Istanbul, she graduated from Istanbul German High School in 1974. She graduated from the Energy Department of the ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1979. In the same year, she began her postgraduate studies at ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 1980, she joined the Department of Electrical Installations at ITU as a Technician Engineer. In 1981, she completed her postgraduate studies and was promoted to the position of Assistant Senior Engineer in the same department. She earned the titles of Doctor and Assistant Professor in 1988, and in 1989, she became an Associate Professor in the field of Energy Distribution. In 1991, she was appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Installations at ITU. Dilek Enarun retired voluntarily in 2008 and passed away in 2022. |

Prof. Dr. Nurdan Güzelbeyoğlu

Nurdan Güzelbeyoğlu was born on August 7, 1938, in Ankara. She entered ITU Technical School in the 1955 academic year through an entrance exam and graduated with high honors in 1959. In the same year, she began working as a Technician Engineer in the High Voltage Engineering division of the Department of Electrical Machines and Installations at ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In the 1963-1964 academic year, she was admitted to the Department of Electrical Specialization at the Istanbul State Academy of Engineering and Architecture (IDMMA) through an exam, graduating as a Senior Engineer in the same year and returning to her position at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. She defended her thesis on March 12, 1976, earning the title of Doctor Engineer. In 1980, she achieved the title of University Associate Professor, and in the University Executive Board meeting on January 27, 1989, she was promoted to Professor. She retired at her own request on October 15, 2001, and passed away in 2019. |

Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Özkaya

Muzaffer Özkaya was born in 1927 in Çanakkale. He graduated from the Power Systems branch of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1949 and joined the faculty as an Assistant in the same year. He completed his Qualification thesis in 1952, his Associate Professorship thesis in 1957, his Doctorate thesis at Stuttgart Technical University in 1958, and his Professorship submission thesis in Germany in 1964.
Muzaffer Özkaya worked as an Assistant from 1949 to 1957 and as an Associate Professor from 1957 to 1965. From 1965 until his retirement due to age on May 8, 1994, he served as a Professor at ITU, where he was involved in teaching and research activities. Additionally, he lectured at Karadeniz Technical University, Yıldız Technical University, and Uludağ University. Professor Dr. Muzaffer Özkaya retired on May 8, 1994, due to age and passed away on April 20, 2014.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bayram

Mustafa Bayram was born on May 2, 1919, in Konya. In 1938, he was sent to Germany by the Ministry of National Education to study Electrical Engineering. He graduated from the Stuttgart Higher School of Engineering in 1943. In 1945, he began his doctoral studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, completing his doctorate in March 1947, and returned to Turkey at the end of that year.
On February 17, 1948, he was appointed as an assistant in the Department of Electrical Machines and Installations at the ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Based on his associate professorship thesis, prepared between 1948 and 1950, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1950 and became a Professor in 1957. He served as the Dean of the Faculty from 1959 to 1962 and was appointed to manage the Department of Electrical Installations in 1964. He retired due to age on May 2, 1986, but continued working on a contractual basis at the same faculty until the end of 1994. In early 1987, he took on a consultancy role in the national palaces. Professor Dr. Mustafa Bayram passed away on May 21, 2011.

Prof. Dr. Nusret Yükseler

Nusret Yükseler completed his primary and secondary education in Bursa. He entered the ITU Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1950 through an entrance exam and graduated as a Senior Engineer in 1955. In the same year, he was appointed as an Assistant Technician in the Department of Energy Transmission. He continued his work uninterruptedly in the faculty, where he held positions, until his retirement in November 1999. Yükseler completed his doctorate in 1972, became an Associate Professor in 1977, and was promoted to Professor in 1989.
His primary areas of research included Energy Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Systems, as well as Direct Energy Conversion. At the faculty, he held roles such as Faculty Board Member and Head of the Department of Electrical Installations. He also served as the Chair of the IEEE - PES Turkey Section. Professor Dr. Nusret Yükseler retired on November 1, 1999, and passed away on April 7, 2010.

Prof. İzzet Gönenç

İzzet Gönenç was born in 1914 in Malatya. In 1936, he entered the Higher School of Engineering, and while continuing his studies, he was sent to Germany by the Ministry of National Education. After completing his studies at the Dresden Higher School of Engineering in Germany, he began his doctoral thesis, completing it within two years. However, just days before his thesis defense, on the evening of Tuesday, February 13, 1945, Dresden suffered one of the most intense air raids of World War II. A large part of the city, including the buildings of the Higher School of Engineering, was destroyed, and the city was evacuated. Under these circumstances, it was not possible to hold the doctoral exam.
In 1945, he began working as an assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 1949, he established a temporary High Voltage Laboratory in the Taşkışla Building. He became an Associate Professor in 1951 and a Professor in 1960. In 1964, he became the head of the Department of High Voltage Engineering. He served as Dean for two terms, from 1965 to 1967 and 1967 to 1968. In 1961, he began planning and designing the establishment of the High Voltage Laboratory, which was completed in 1978 after approximately 15 years of work. He retired in 1983. Professor İzzet Gönenç passed away on August 10, 2009.

Prof. Moiz Eskenazi

Moiz Eskenazi was born in 1914 in Istanbul. He joined Istanbul Technical University (then known as the Higher School of Engineering) as an assistant in 1936 and retired as a Professor in 1981, after 45 years, by his own choice. He taught various courses at Istanbul Technical University, Yıldız University (IDMMA), Karadeniz Technical University, and Bursa Uludağ University. He was instrumental in having “Lighting” recognized as a field of study at ITU. Professor Dr. Moiz Eskenazi passed away on March 28, 2007. |

Prof. Dr. Ali Turgut Boduroğlu
(1936-2006) |
Ali Turgut Boduroğlu was born in 1936. He passed the entrance exam of the Istanbul Higher School of Engineering and attended it as a boarding student for about a year before being sent to Germany by the Ministry of Education to study electrical engineering. At the beginning of 1942, he graduated from the Power Systems branch of the Electrical Engineering Department. By the end of 1944, he earned the title of Doctor Engineer.
At the beginning of 1945, upon returning to Turkey, Turgut Boduroğlu joined the Department of Electrical Machines at the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Electrical Engineering as an assistant. In 1946, he earned the title of University Associate Professor, and at the end of 1951, he was promoted to Professor and appointed Chair of the Department of Electrical Machines and Installations. During the 1955-56 term, he served as Dean of the Faculty and simultaneously held the position of Chair of the Department of Meteorology Engineering, which was affiliated with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
Professor Dr. Turgut Boduroğlu retired in 1985 due to age while serving as Chair of the Electrical Machines Department. He passed away in March 2006.

Prof. Dr. Abdi Dalfes

Abdi Dalfes was born on June 13, 1921, in Istanbul. He graduated with high honors from the Weak Current branch of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Electrical Engineering in June 1948. In February 1949, he began working as an assistant in the Department of Electrotechnics and Electrical Measurements at the same faculty. He passed the qualification exam in 1951 and the associate professorship exam in 1955, after which he was appointed as an associate professor in the same department. In 1963, he became a professor in the Department of Nuclear Power in Electrical Engineering.
As a retired professor in the ITU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics, Department of Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installations Division, he taught courses on nuclear power reactors and other nuclear energy topics. Professor Dalfes passed away on July 6, 2003.

Prof. Dr. Ö. Vural Aygen

Ö. Vural Aygen was born in 1934 in Daday, Kastamonu. After completing Araç Central Primary School in 1946 and Kastamonu High School in 1953, he enrolled in the ITU Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Power Systems branch, where he received his Senior Engineer diploma in 1958. In July of the same year, he began working as a technician in the Department of Energy Transmission at the faculty from which he graduated. He earned the title of Doctor in September 1974 and continued as a Doctoral Assistant in the Department of Electrical Installations after the Department of Energy Transmission was merged into it. He became an Associate Professor in November 1979 and a Professor in December 1988. He continued his duties until his passing on September 20, 1990. |

Osman İkizli was born in 1911 in Romania. After graduating from the Politechnica School, he came to Turkey, his homeland, and enrolled in the Istanbul Higher School of Engineering. He graduated in 1940 and was appointed as an Assistant in Electrical Machines in the Electrical Department on the same date. In 1944, he was promoted to Senior Assistant in Electrical Machines at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. On May 27, 1947, he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Machines, and on January 18, 1962, he was promoted to Professor. Professor Osman İkizli retired due to age on August 1, 1981, and passed away on December 9, 1989. |

Cabir H. Sepen was born in 1924 in Erzincan. He received his Senior Mechanical Engineer diploma from Nancy University in 1928, followed by a Senior Electrical Engineer diploma from Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité in Paris in 1929. He began working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in 1945. In 1948, he earned the title of Doctor Engineer at Nancy University, and in 1949, by decision of the Inter-University Council, he was promoted to Professor and assigned to manage the Department of Industrial Applications of Electricity. Ordinary Professor Dr. Cabir H. Sepen retired in 1976 and passed away in 1983. |

Prof. Dr. Tarık Özker

Tarık Özker was born in 1919 in Istanbul and graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 1944. In the same year, he was appointed as an assistant in the Telegraph and Telephone Department. In December 1948, he went to the United States for doctoral studies and completed his doctorate at the University of Illinois in 1951, returning to the faculty on March 28, 1952. He became an Associate Professor on November 6, 1953, and was promoted to Professor in 1958.
In 1963, Professor Dr. Tarık Özker became the head of the newly established Department of Circuit Theory and held this position until his passing on September 7, 1977. In recognition of his significant contributions to the development of the field of Circuits and Systems in Turkey, Professor Dr. Tarık Özker was posthumously awarded the TÜBİTAK Service Award in 1980.

Nami Serdaroğlu was born in 1906. He graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Science, in 1931 and joined the Higher School of Engineering as an assistant in 1932. He became an Associate Professor in 1933 and was sent to the Dresden Technical University in 1936, where he earned his Senior Chemical Engineer diploma in 1938. He also received the title of Doctor Engineer at Dresden in 1938 before returning to Turkey. In 1940, he served as an Assistant Dean at the Higher School of Engineering. He became a Professor in 1942 and served as the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from 1950 to 1952 and from 1957 to 1959. Professor Dr. Nami Serdaroğlu passed away in 1963. |

Ord. Prof. Dr. T. Bödefeld

Theodor Bödefeld studied at the Technical Universities of Darmstadt and Hannover. In 1922, he began working at the Thyssen machine factory in Mülheim. In 1926, he moved to Karlsruhe Technical University as an assistant to Rudolf Richter, where he completed his doctorate on the natural vibrations of synchronous machines. In 1931, he became a professor at the Badisches Staatstechnikum in Karlsruhe. In 1935, he succeeded Johann Ossanna as the chair of electrical machines at the Technical University of Munich. His teaching and research focused on the operation, construction, and testing of electrical machines, transformers, power converters, and electrical energy transmission.
In 1943 and 1944, Bödefeld served as a visiting lecturer at Istanbul Technical University. After World War II, he was forced to leave his position in Munich for political reasons. In 1947, he was invited to return to Istanbul, but his entry was denied. In 1952, he joined Siemens-Schuckertwerke AG in Berlin, where he took over the management of the calculation offices in the dynamo factory and later assumed a technical management role.

Ord. Prof. Mehmet Emin Kalmuk
(1869-1954) |
Mehmet Emin Kalmuk was born in 1869 in Istanbul, belonging to a Turkish family who had emigrated from Crimea. Kalmuk graduated at the top of his class from Darüşşafaka and was appointed as an instructor in Mathematics and Geometry at the same school. He also worked in the Post and Telegraph Administration. After being sent to the Advanced PTT School in Paris, he completed his studies in 1889 and returned to Turkey, where he held various positions in the Istanbul PTT Administration, eventually becoming the Director of Telegraph and Telephone Affairs.
Kalmuk made significant contributions to the development of the PTT Administration and represented Turkey at various international conferences. His key professional achievements included the installation of the Kastamonu-Baku and Marmaris-Latakia cables, the construction of the Istanbul Elazığ landline, the repair of the Istanbul-Constanta cable, and fixing the fault in the Latakia-Cyprus cable.
Kalmuk also served as a teacher at various schools, including Istanbul Darülmuallimin (Teacher Training College for Men), Darülmuallimat (Teacher Training College for Women), the Advanced PTT School, and the Military Science Application School. He began his tenure at the Higher School of Engineering in 1927 as a Geometry Instructor, was promoted to Lecturer in 1929, and began teaching Telegraph and Telephone courses in 1935.
Mehmet Emin Kalmuk retired voluntarily on December 31, 1943, and passed away on March 20, 1954.

Ord. Prof. Burhaneddin Sezerar

Burhanettin Sezerar was born in 1886 in Istanbul. He went to France, where he earned a bachelor's degree from the Sorbonne University in 1911, as well as diplomas from the Paris School of Advanced Electrical Engineering and the Paris School of Advanced Wireless Telegraphy in 1912. In 1913, he served as assistant chief in the Electrical Machines Laboratory at the Higher Electrical School. In the same year, Sezerar was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematical Philosophy in the mathematical and physical sciences branches of Istanbul Darülfünun (University). In 1924, he became a Professor of Electrotechnics at Istanbul Darülfünun, and in 1925, he was additionally appointed as an Instructor of Electrical Engineering at the School of Engineering. Ordinary Professor Burhanettin Sezerar passed away on May 28, 1953. |

Prof. Fuat Külünk

Fuat Külünk was born in 1911 in Baghdad. In 1926, he enrolled in the Higher School of Engineering, and in 1930, he passed a competitive exam and was sent to the Zurich Technical University, where he graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering. Külünk returned to his country in 1936 and was appointed as an Assistant Instructor in the Electromechanical Department at the Higher School of Engineering. He worked with Professor Doppler on topics such as Electrical Machines, Energy Transmission, and High Voltage, making significant contributions to the establishment of laboratories.
Later promoted to Professor, he became the head of the electrical section of the Electromechanical Department, showing exceptional dedication not only in the department's establishment but also in its development. After the founding of Istanbul Technical University, he became the first dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Fuat Külünk passed away on December 27, 1951, in Uludağ.
